- Pomatomus saltatrix
Overview[]
Perhaps no fish that Australian Kayakfishermen target occupy the unique place of the Tailor. Named so because its sharp teeth cut tackle to shreds, the fish is seen as an absolute pest when in its juvenile (chopper) state - only to emerge as a prized catch as it matures.
Tailor are indiscriminate, voracious predators. Almost any lure, bait, or SP will be destroyed by their razor sharp teeth. Schools of small Tailor often inhibit the the catching of larger, more desirable species working bait underneath. However, once they achieve size - the fish is a prized catch.
The AKFF record Tailor can be found in our Salt Water Records section.
