Overview[]
Marlin are pelagic species, found in tropical and sub-tropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans Australia, though also present in Southern waters during the Summer months, especially when the East Australian Current runs along the QLD and NSW coastlines.
Black Marlin are the largest of the family growing to more than 900kgs and 5m in length. They can be distinguished from M. mazara by the prescence of pectoral fins that cannot be folded against the body, also they lack stripes or blotches present on the bodies of Blue and Striped Marlin.
