Holding a few of the most widely recognised river systems along the Eastern seaboard; the Hastings, Macleay, Clarence, Richmond, and Tweed Rivers, the Far North Coast holds it all for the fisherman; bluewater fishing for mackerel, tuna and even Marlin to skinny water fishing for Australian Bass and trout.

Richmond The Richmond River runs from the foothills of the Mt Lindsay area, flowing all the way through the grazing pastures and crops of the Northern Rivers until it flows into the Pacific Ocean at Ballina. With three major tributaries, the Richmond River is provided with water from the Wilsons River (very weak brackish>fresh), Bungawalbin Creek (brackish>fresh), Emigrant Creek (salt>fresh) sub-catchments each with their own type of fishing set.

Toonumbar Dam is the only dam within this catchment which fishing is permitted and is located Northwest of Kyogle. Combustion engine powered craft are permitted, though are obliged to be underway at no more than 8 statute miles per hour, contrary to belief that it is 8knots/hr. This dam provides excellent fishing for bass along its granite rock walls and extensive weed beds providing exciting surface fishing over the heat of the Summer months.
