Some species of fish can have their flavor remarkably improved if the fish is properly bled right after capture.
While this can be accomplished in a number of ways, many people find this method effective and humane:
- Immobilize the fish with a whack to the head.
- Take a sharp knife and cut the fish's throat.
- Allow the blood of the fish to pump out
- Completely kill the fish by pulling the head back to snap the spinal column
